Scoring System Explained

Scoring System for Bowhunter of the Year, Archer of the Year and Best of Species

These awards are structured to encourage the pursuit of excellence. To pursue quality trophy’s under the rules of fair chase.

HTML clipboard HTML clipboard Bowhunter and Archery of the year - the scoring system in place for an animal remain the same.  Any additional animals harvested within a species will have a zero value.  Only the first animal of the species will be scored using the point system.


Bowhunter of the Year

Bowhunter of the Year scoring is based on big game animals harvested in the state of Idaho. The scoring system shall follow the definition of big game as found in the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Big Game Regulations. Scoring of animals shall also follow the Pope and Young Club Scoring System. All minimums will be those currently defined by the Pope and Young Club.

To qualify for this award you must have the minimum number of club activity points (100). You must submit your animals for scoring and provide your harvest report. All harvest submissions must occur before December 31 of the year or as announced in the TVB newsletter.

Points are issued as follows:

1 Point for each Female animal harvested.
2 Points for each Male animal harvested.
3 Bonus Points for each animal meeting Pope and Young Minimum qualifications.


Eligible Species are:

Mule Deer  Moose
Whitetail Deer Bighorn Sheep
Elk Goat
Bear Antelope
Cougar Turkey (added)

All other local species and exotics are considered extra and are used at the discretion of the board of directors to break ties or to honor noteworthy achievements.

Example:

A person harvested an antelope buck, boar bear, bull elk and a buck and doe deer.  The elk meets the minimum Pope and Young requirements:

Archer of the Year

Archer of the Year scoring is based on big game animals harvested any where in the world. Scoring of animals shall follow the Pope and Young Club Scoring System where possible. All minimums will be those currently defined by the Pope and Young Club. Safari Club scoring methodologies and minimum qualifications will be used where appropriate. Big Game as defined in the Pope and Young Club listings shall take precedence; Pope and Young minimums will be applied first.

To qualify for this award you must have the minimum number of club activity points (100). You must submit your animals for scoring and provide your harvest report. . All harvest submissions must occur before December 31 of the year or as announced in the TVB newsletter

Points are issued as follows:

2 Points for each Male animal harvested.
3 Bonus Points for each animal meeting Pope and Young/Safari Club  Minimum qualifications.


Eligible species are any recognized big game animal on any of the continents. Questions as to whether or not a particular species is defined as “Big Game” shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

All species and exotics consider as not big game are considered extra and are used at the discretion of the board of directors to break ties or to honor noteworthy achievements.

Example:

A person harvested an antelope buck, boar bear, bull elk, bull caribou, Wyoming buck mule deer. The elk and caribou meet the minimum Pope and Young point requirements.

Best of Species

Best of Species awards will be given for Pope and Young Listed Animals only. To qualify for this award you must have the minimum number of club activity points (50). At the discretion of the Board of Directors, special awards will be given for animals not listed in the Pope and Young records for noteworthy achievements.


Youth Awards

Youth "Best of Species", "Archer of the Year" and "Bowhunter of the Year" must have a minimum of 50 club points to qualify for these awards.
